Enough is Enough: Phil Murphy's Nanny State Has Gone Too Far

I’m sick of it. You’re probably sick of it too. For years, Governor Phil Murphy and his Democratic cronies in Trenton have been wagging their fingers at us, telling us what we can’t do, what we can’t own, and how we’re supposed to live our lives. It’s not about governing anymore—it’s about control. And I’ve had it up to here with their endless bans and restrictions.

Let’s start with COVID-19. Remember when Murphy locked us down, shuttered businesses, and turned neighbors into snitches over mask mandates? I get it—public health, blah blah blah. But the heavy-handed approach never let up, even when the science got murky or the rules stopped making sense. Small businesses got crushed while big-box stores raked it in. And don’t get me started on the hypocrisy—Murphy dining out mask-free while we were stuck Zooming Thanksgiving. It wasn’t about safety; it was about power.

Then there’s gun ownership. New Jersey already has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, but that’s not enough for Murphy. He’s pushed for more red tape, more fees, and more hoops to jump through just to exercise a constitutional right. Meanwhile, law-abiding folks like us are left defenseless while criminals—who don’t follow laws, by the way—run the streets. It’s not about stopping crime; it’s about disarming us.

And how about the plastic bag and straw ban? I’m all for clean oceans, but forcing us to lug around reusable bags or sip through soggy paper straws while grocery prices skyrocket is peak absurdity. The planet’s not drowning in my ShopRite bags—it’s drowning in bureaucratic nonsense. Did anyone ask us if we wanted this? Nope. They just decided we’re too dumb to handle plastic responsibly.

Then there’s the gas car ban. Murphy’s got this grand plan to phase out gas-powered vehicles by 2035, like we’re all ready to shell out for electric cars we can’t afford—or charge them in a state where the power grid already flickers during a heat wave. What about the folks who can’t drop 50 grand on a Tesla? What about rural towns where charging stations are a pipe dream? It’s a fantasy for rich suburbanites, not a plan for regular people.

And don’t even get me started on the gas stove ban chatter. Cooking dinner on my trusty old range is one of life’s simple pleasures, and now they want to rip that out of my kitchen too? They say it’s for the climate, but it feels like they just hate anything that doesn’t fit their shiny, sterile vision of the future. Next, they’ll be banning my charcoal grill because it’s not “sustainable.”

Here’s the thing: I’m not some anti-government nut. I pay my taxes, I vote, I follow the rules. But there’s a difference between governing and micromanaging every damn detail of our lives. Murphy and the Democrats act like they’re our parents, not our representatives. They don’t trust us to make our own choices—about our health, our safety, our shopping bags, our cars, our stoves. It’s exhausting.

New Jersey used to be a place where you could live your life, raise a family, and enjoy a little freedom. Now it feels like a testing ground for every half-baked progressive idea that comes down the pike. I’m not saying we need to ditch all rules—chaos isn’t the answer. But how about a little balance? How about trusting us, the people, to figure some things out for ourselves?

So, Governor Murphy, here’s my message: Back off. Stop treating us like children who need constant supervision. Let us breathe. Let us live. And for once, listen to what we’re saying instead of preaching from your podium. Because if you don’t, come election time, we’ll remind you who’s really in charge—and it’s not you.
