STAMFORD, Conn. — A fire tore through a downtown Stamford commercial building early Friday morning, destroying several businesses and injuring two firefighters.
Firefighters responded to an alarm at 184 Bedford Street at 4:45 a.m. and arrived five minutes later to find smoke coming from Chez Vous Bistro. The fire quickly spread through the walls and ceiling, reaching the second floor and neighboring businesses, including Whim Women’s Clothing, Atelier Valoar Couture, the Women’s Business Development Council, and Deco Fine Arts and Framing.

A total of 52 firefighters battled the blaze, which was declared under control at 6:51 a.m. Mutual aid was provided by the Norwalk and Greenwich fire departments, and Bedford Street remained closed until 10:00 a.m. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were treated and released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal’s Office.
