Joseph Rullo vows sweeping reforms for veterans in New Jersey governor bid

TOMS RIVER, N.J. — Republican gubernatorial candidate Joseph Rullo has pledged to make veterans a top priority in his campaign, proposing a series of reforms aimed at improving their healthcare, housing, and financial stability.

Rullo announced a plan to eliminate state income taxes on all veterans’ pensions regardless of age and to provide an annual $2,500 property tax rebate in addition to the existing Anchor rebate. He also vowed to transition all New Jersey hospitals to accept VA healthcare and to prioritize unemployed veterans for state job placements.

He pledged to address homelessness among veterans, create a new cabinet position titled “No Veteran Left Behind,” and expand mental health services to combat PTSD and high suicide rates. “As governor, I pledge to make every day Veterans Day and Memorial Day in New Jersey,” Rullo stated.

The candidate also criticized U.S. Sen. Cory Booker for focusing on prison reform while, according to Rullo, neglecting veterans’ issues. He also condemned Gov. Phil Murphy’s handling of veteran care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rullo’s campaign places veterans’ issues at the forefront, promising sweeping changes if elected.
