A Happy Ending for This Pregnant Pig Thanks to Animal Control Officer

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A Stafford County deputy helped deliver two piglets after responding to an unusual obstetrics call involving a struggling 400-pound pregnant sow on Tuesday afternoon.

Deputy R.A. Peterson arrived at the North Stafford location around 2:24 p.m. to find the pig, nicknamed “Barbie Q.,” in distress while giving birth. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Peterson assisted in successfully delivering two female piglets, humorously named “Hamela Anderson” and “Lindsay Loham.”

“On March 5th at 2:24 p.m. Deputy R.A. Peterson responded to an obstetrics call in North Stafford. What made this incident a sow-prise, was the 400-pound pregnant mother was a sow we are calling Barbie Q. No, the attached photos are not a pigment of your imagination,” the department posted on Facebook. “Deputy Peterson arrived to find Barbie Q. struggling to give birth to her litter and realized it was snout or never. Due to her hambitious effort, Deputy Peterson was able to successfully hand deliver two female piglets we are calling Hamela Anderson and Lindsay Loham.”

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office shared the lighthearted rescue, praising Peterson’s efforts in ensuring a safe delivery.
