Jackson Ordinance Revision Prohibits Parking on Grass Medians

JACKSON, N.J. – Jackson Township is in the process of updating its parking ordinances to emphasis its no parking policy on grass medians throughout the community.  According to Jackson Township Council President Jennifer Kuhn, this update is required to specifically identify which areas area affected by the new ordinance.

The Jackson Township Council introduced an ordinance that would prohibit parking along the island median sides of several courts throughout the township.

The proposed changes would restrict parking along the entire length of the island median sides of 13 residential courts.

“People have been parking their car on the grass medians and our Department of Public Works cannot access the grassy areas to cut and maintain the township right of ways,” Kuhn said. “Not only is this not permitted, but it makes the job of keeping our spaces clean harder for our township workers.”

The restriction also applies to the grass island medians within these areas.

According to the ordinance, the amendment aims to improve traffic flow and ensure emergency vehicle access in affected neighborhoods.

If adopted after a second reading and public hearing, the ordinance will take effect upon publication in accordance with local law.

The proposed ordinance, Ordinance 07-2025, seeks to prohibit parking along the island median sides of the following roads in Jackson Township:

  1. Shaw Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  2. Kings Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  3. Drew Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  4. Utica Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  5. Emory Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  6. Nevada Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  7. Ohio Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  8. Cornell Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  9. Yale Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  10. Vassar Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  11. Marymount Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  12. Columbia Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median
  13. Washington Court – Entire length, including within the grass island median

These locations will be added to Chapter 103-45 Schedule I of the Jackson Township Code, restricting parking along the island median sides of these courts once the ordinance is passed and published in accordance with local law.
