Garage fire in Charlotte Hall injures one, causes $100,000 in damage

CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. – A garage fire in St. Mary’s County left one man injured and caused an estimated $100,000 in damage Tuesday afternoon, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responded to 38395 Pleasant View Drive at 12:34 p.m., where they found a single-story detached garage engulfed in flames. The fire, which started outside the structure, was caused by burning debris that got out of control due to wind, investigators said.

A male resident suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation and was flown by Maryland State Police Trooper 7 to Baltimore Shock Trauma for treatment. The fire also caused minor damage to a nearby home.

The Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department led the response, with 75 firefighters working for an hour to bring the blaze under control. The garage did not have a smoke alarm or sprinkler system.
