JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – A chiropractor in Ocean County has been charged with criminal sexual contact following allegations that he inappropriately touched a patient during an adjustment, authorities said.
James Royle, 68, of New Egypt, was charged on February 27 in connection with the incident, which allegedly took place on February 14 at Royle Sports Chiropractic in Jackson Township, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
A female patient contacted law enforcement on February 26, reporting that Royle had touched her inappropriately during a scheduled chiropractic session.
Investigators from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Jackson Township Police Department determined that the alleged contact was not related to the treatment.
Royle turned himself in at Jackson Township Police Headquarters on February 27 and was charged on a summons pending future court appearances in Ocean County Superior Court.
“If anyone has had a similar experience with Royle, I urge you to contact Detective Cassidy Goebel of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027, extension 3124, or Detective Brian Baranyay of the Jackson Township Police Department at 732-833-3010,” Billhimer said.
Authorities credited the Special Victims Unit and Jackson Township Police for their efforts in the investigation.
The chiropractor faces legal proceedings as investigators urge any additional victims to come forward.
