FREEHOLD, N.J. — A Monmouth County man has been sentenced to 45 years in state prison for sexually and physically abusing his daughter over more than six years, prosecutors announced Friday.
Andrey V. Penkin, 51, of Marlboro Township, must serve at least 37 years before becoming eligible for parole under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act (NERA). Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Christie Bevacqua handed down the sentence Thursday.
An investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Bureau and the Marlboro Township Police Department found that the abuse began in 2016, when the family lived in Sayreville. It continued after they moved to East Brunswick and later Marlboro. In early 2023, Penkin physically assaulted his daughter after discovering she had a friend’s pack of cigarettes, causing a severe concussion and facial injuries.
Penkin was arrested in April 2023, and following a trial, he was convicted in September 2024 on two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree aggravated sexual assault, and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
At trial, the state presented medical records, witness testimony, and physical evidence, including the victim’s diary. The jury returned a guilty verdict after 80 minutes of deliberation.
“The victim in this case endured years of unimaginably cruel abuse from a person who was supposed to rank high among her most trusted sources of love and protection,” Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said. “We strongly feel that this sentence is fitting and hope it sends an unmistakable message regarding the consequences of such conduct.”
