Domestic Assault Incident Leads to Arrest in Utica, NY

UTICA, NY – On February 27, Utica Police and Fire units responded to a domestic assault call at a residence on Scott Street. The incident involved a female victim who alleged she was attacked by her husband.

Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who claimed that an argument with her husband escalated, leading her to hide in a bathroom. The victim reported that she attempted to escape but was struck multiple times in the head with a wooden object, resulting in lacerations and pain.

The Utica Fire Department transported the victim to Wynn Hospital for treatment. In accordance with New York State’s mandatory domestic violence arrest laws, the husband, identified as Michael Leggett, 57, was arrested at the scene.

Leggett was brought to the Utica Police Department and charged with Assault in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree.
