New Jersey drivers are being reminded of the important “Move Over Law,” aimed at protecting first responders, law enforcement, and roadside workers. The Aberdeen Township Police Department has highlighted this law to ensure the safety of those who work to keep the public secure.
The Move Over Law, enforced under New Jersey Statute 39:4-92.2, requires drivers to shift into the next lane when safe upon approaching a vehicle with flashing lights stopped on the roadside. If unable to move over, drivers should slow down and proceed with caution.
Each year, lives are lost due to non-adherence to this law. Drivers are urged to prioritize the safety of emergency workers by either moving over or slowing down and staying alert if unable to shift lanes.
For any inquiries about this law, individuals can contact the Aberdeen Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit at 732-566-2054 ext. 219. The department also encourages sharing this information to spread awareness and promote road safety.
