CROWNSVILLE, Md. — An Anne Arundel County woman won a $50,000 second-tier prize in the Maryland Lottery’s Mega Bucks scratch-off game after uncovering a series of smaller prizes that added up to the major win.
The food service worker, identified only as “Sandra,” bought the $10 ticket at the Herald Harbor Inn & Mini Mart in Crownsville. She scratched off the first number and matched a $25 prize, followed by a $1,000 win. As she continued, she revealed four $10,000 prizes, nine $1,000 prizes, and multiple smaller amounts, bringing her total to $50,000.
“I was so excited. My heart started to drop. The first thing I did was call my family,” she told lottery officials.
Sandra has not yet decided how to use her winnings but said the money will likely go toward her family.
The Mega Bucks game, which launched on Nov. 27, still has six of its nine top prizes of $100,000 available, along with other cash prizes.
