Jackson Man Charged for Stabbing, Murdering 74-Year-Old Roomate

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A Jackson Township man has been indicted on murder and weapons charges in connection with the fatal stabbing of his 74-year-old roommate, prosecutors said.

An Ocean County grand jury indicted Louis Gargiso, 39, on charges of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon in the July 19, 2024, death of Robert Sunris, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Wednesday.

Police responded to a Maple Street residence around 5:55 a.m. that day and found Sunris unconscious with a stab wound to the chest, authorities said. A knife was discovered next to his body.

A post-mortem examination determined Sunris’ death was a homicide. Investigators identified Gargiso as the suspect, and he was taken into custody at the scene without incident. He has remained detained at the Ocean County Jail since his arrest.
