BRONX, N.Y. — A 15-year-old boy has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing a man across the street from the Bronx Hall of Justice in broad daylight, prosecutors said. The teenager and a 17-year-old co-defendant are also charged in connection with a separate shooting that left a 65-year-old woman wounded.
Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said the teen is responsible for multiple gun violence incidents last fall. “He allegedly brazenly fired shots right near the courthouse on the afternoon before Thanksgiving, killing a man and causing fear among the passersby,” Clark said in a statement.
The defendant was arraigned on second-degree murder, attempted murder, first-degree assault, and multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Gayle Roberts. He was remanded and is scheduled to appear in court on May 16. Co-defendant Ley Baio, 17, faces similar charges for his alleged role in the shootings and was previously arraigned on January 9.
According to the investigation, on November 27, 2024, at approximately 2:42 p.m., the 15-year-old allegedly shot Jerron Grant, 29, multiple times in the torso outside 280 East 161st Street. The teenager fled but was arrested on East 158th Street, where police recovered a .40-caliber Taurus Millennium PT pistol nearby.
Authorities also linked the same firearm to two previous shootings. On November 20, 2024, the 15-year-old allegedly passed the gun to Baio, who then rode a Citi Bike with a third suspect to Jackson Avenue. Baio allegedly handed the gun to the unidentified individual, who fired multiple times into a crowd, striking a 65-year-old woman in the leg.
The first shooting connected to the suspect occurred on October 14, 2024, in the Mott Haven section. The teenager allegedly fired multiple rounds into a crowd on East 143rd Street. Police recovered five .40-caliber shell casings at the scene, later matched to the same firearm.
