Newport News police make arrest in weekend murder investigation

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Authorities have arrested a 64-year-old woman in connection with the fatal shooting of a man who died after arriving at a home with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Donnell Bowles, 61, was found unresponsive Saturday at a residence in the 1200 block of 16th Street, where another resident reported that he had been assaulted at a different location, according to the Newport News Police Department. Bowles was transported to a hospital, where doctors discovered he had suffered a gunshot wound. He later died from his injuries.

Following an investigation, police arrested Natlie Johnson on Tuesday and charged her with first-degree murder and multiple firearms offenses.

Authorities credited officers and detectives for their quick work in resolving the case.
