WASHINGTON, D.C. — Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth will travel Tuesday to Naval Station Guantanamo Bay (NSGB), Cuba, marking his first visit to the base since his confirmation in January.
During the visit, Hegseth will receive briefings on key operations, including the Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility and the Migrant Operations Center. He will also meet with U.S. service members at the base and aboard the USS Thomas Hudner to discuss their experiences and express appreciation for their service.
Naval Station Guantanamo Bay plays a strategic role in regional stability and maritime security. It also functions as a temporary holding site for migrants awaiting repatriation or relocation.
The trip highlights the Department of Defense’s commitment to ensuring the base’s security and operational effectiveness while reinforcing support for military personnel stationed there.
