BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. – A driver suffered a medical episode and crashed a Cadillac SUV into a home Thursday afternoon, injuring both the driver and the homeowner, police said.
Officers responded to 130 Sylvan Lake Blvd at approximately 4:24 p.m. and found a white Cadillac SUV embedded in the front of the house, according to the Berkeley Township Police Department.
Investigators determined that the Cadillac had been traveling southbound on Driftwood Drive when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the home’s front facade. The impact caused significant structural damage.
Emergency crews from the Bayville Fire Department assisted in extricating the driver, who suffered lacerations and was transported to Community Medical Center. The homeowner, who had been sitting on a daybed at the time, was thrown across the room and covered in debris. She sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
The Berkeley Township Building Inspector deemed the house unsafe. Firefighters helped secure the structure before the vehicle was removed by Accurate Towing.
