MIDDLETOWN, NJ – If New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy wants to keep housing illegal aliens in the attic of his Middletown home, he’s going to start having to pay for them himself.
Yesterday, President Donald Trump officially cut off federal funding to illegal aliens, including housing, healthcare, and other welfare programs.
President Trump signed an executive order aimed at preventing federal taxpayer dollars from funding benefits for undocumented immigrants, directing agencies to review and limit such spending.
The order requires federal departments and agencies to identify programs providing financial assistance to undocumented immigrants and take corrective action. It also bars federal funds from supporting state and local “sanctuary” policies and mandates stricter eligibility verification for federal benefits.
“The surge in illegal immigration, enabled by the previous administration, is siphoning dollars and essential services from American citizens,” the order states. According to data cited in the announcement, federal and state expenditures on undocumented immigrants have grown significantly in recent years. A report from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates the annual cost to taxpayers at $182 billion, including $66.5 billion in federal spending and $115.6 billion at the state and local levels.
Trump’s order follows his broader immigration enforcement agenda, which includes resuming border wall construction, reinstating the “Remain in Mexico” policy, and increasing deportations. The order also calls for terminating parole programs that allow certain migrants to remain in the U.S. and ending automatic citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants.
Since returning to office, Trump has taken additional steps to address immigration, including declaring a national emergency at the southern border, deploying more personnel, and tightening asylum policies.
The executive order signals a renewed focus on restricting federal benefits to U.S. citizens and legal residents as part of Trump’s broader efforts to curb illegal immigration.
