OTSEGO COUNTY, Mich. — A 74-year-old Michigan man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of his wife after authorities discovered the couple squatting in a cabin last year, state police said.
John Dominick Bromley and his 68-year-old wife were found living in the Otsego County cottage without permission in June 2024, according to the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post. When troopers spoke with the woman, they noticed extensive bruising and that she was having trouble breathing.
She was transported to Otsego Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City due to the severity of her injuries.
While at the hospital, the woman disclosed a history of domestic abuse to MSP troopers from the Traverse City Post.
She died a few days after being admitted. Authorities said Bromley later attempted to access the morgue by impersonating a state trooper but was denied entry.
Following an autopsy and a lengthy investigation, the Otsego County Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant. Bromley was taken into custody during a traffic stop in Oakland County and was transported to the Otsego County Jail on February 9, 2025.
Bromley remains in custody as he faces charges in his wife’s death.
