CLINTON, MD — A Prince George’s County man claimed a $50,000 Pick 5 prize just days before it was set to expire, keeping his winning ticket a secret for nearly six months.

The truck driver purchased the winning ticket at 2 Go Convenience and Deli in Savage for the Aug. 21 midday and evening drawings. The next day, he discovered he had matched the numbers straight for the $50,000 jackpot.

Rather than cash in right away, he tucked the ticket away in a drawer and told no one, not even his wife. She was shocked to learn he had been holding onto the winning ticket the entire time.

The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The winner plans to use his prize for home improvements, a new car, and a gift for his wife.
