NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Newark arrested a Peruvian national wanted overseas for the rape of a minor.
The fugitive, who was illegally present in the United States, was taken into custody in Guttenberg, New Jersey, on Feb. 11. Due to privacy concerns, authorities have withheld the individual’s name.
ICE ERO Newark acting Field Office Director Ruben Perez emphasized the agency’s commitment to removing dangerous criminals.
“Our arrest of a Peruvian fugitive, who is wanted for prosecution in the heinous crime of child rape overseas, is further evidence dangerous criminals will not find a safe haven in the United States,” Perez said. “Egregious criminals are a primary target in ICE ERO Newark’s daily routine immigration enforcement actions. We appreciate the added support from our federal partners to accomplish our mission, specifically from the FBI and ICE Homeland Security Investigations who supported this arrest.”
The fugitive was served a notice to appear before an immigration judge, with his court date pending before the Executive Office for Immigration Review. He remains in ICE custody while removal proceedings are underway.
