BALTIMORE — A powerful winter storm has caused hazardous travel conditions across Maryland, with state police responding to hundreds of incidents since Tuesday afternoon.

From 2 p.m. Tuesday through 5 a.m. Wednesday, Maryland State Police handled 765 calls for service statewide. Authorities reported 235 crashes and 185 inoperable or abandoned vehicles as snow and ice created treacherous road conditions.

Troopers are urging motorists to drive cautiously and allow extra travel time as road crews continue clearing highways. “Maryland State Police remind motorists to take it slow and plan for extra travel time today,” the department said in a statement.

Authorities are advising residents to monitor road conditions and avoid unnecessary travel as the winter storm continues to impact the region.
