OXON HILL, Md. — A Potomac High School student was taken into custody Wednesday after security personnel discovered two loaded handguns in his possession, the Prince George’s County Police Department announced.
Jamel Curtis, 19, of Oxon Hill, was stopped at a school entrance around 10:45 a.m. when a metal detector alerted security to the weapons concealed in his clothing. Prince George’s County Schools security personnel immediately notified law enforcement, who responded to the scene.
Curtis was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including possession of a handgun on his person and possession of a dangerous weapon on school property.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive or whether Curtis intended to use the weapons. The incident remains under investigation as school officials and law enforcement work to ensure student safety.
