WASHINGTON — Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), criticized Democrats for opposing cuts to USAID, accusing them of hypocrisy and undemocratic behavior.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk argued that Democratic leaders had alienated voters through internal party decisions and were now attacking DOGE for its efforts to reduce wasteful spending.
“The Democratic Party still doesn’t realize how many Americans they have alienated with their shady, ironically UNDEMOCRATIC tactics,” Musk wrote. He accused the party of blocking Bernie Sanders’ nomination, undermining Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and replacing Vice President Kamala Harris with President Joe Biden “without even holding a primary.”
Musk defended DOGE, an office tasked with eliminating fraud and waste in government spending, against criticism over its proposed cuts to USAID. “Now they are relentlessly trashing @DOGE, which is just trying to stop fraud, waste, and abuse of your taxpayer dollars and report back to the public with maximum transparency! It’s messed up,” he wrote.
Democratic leaders have pushed back against cuts to USAID, arguing the agency plays a crucial role in global development, humanitarian aid, and U.S. foreign policy. Critics accuse DOGE of undermining key government functions under the guise of efficiency.
Instead, billions of dollars of waste have been found in the agency, which as of now, appears to be completely shut down by President Trump.
