Salisbury man wins $50,000 Powerball Double Play prize

SALISBURY, MD – A Salisbury man won a $50,000 third-tier Powerball Double Play prize in the Feb. 1 drawing after nearly forgetting about a previous winning ticket that led to his lucky purchase.

The winner, who goes by “Powerball Dad,” purchased the ticket at Wine Rack in Fruitland after using a $12 winning ticket he rediscovered while sorting through receipts. He routinely plays Powerball, Mega Millions, and scratch-offs but had never won more than $80 before this drawing.

His wife scanned the ticket using the Maryland Lottery app and repeatedly received a message instructing her to take the ticket to a retailer. After comparing the numbers manually, she realized the ticket matched four of the white balls, securing the $50,000 prize.

Unsure at first if they had actually won, the couple double-checked the ticket at a store ticket checker, which confirmed the prize. “I got the message,” the winner said, laughing.

The couple plans to use the winnings to pay bills, renovate their home, and take a summer vacation with their family.
