FAIR LAKES, Va. — A 16-year-old boy was arrested after stabbing a police officer during a response to a false emergency call in Fair Lakes, authorities said.
Fairfax County police officers were dispatched to the 12800 block of Fair Lakes Parkway at 2:38 p.m. Monday after a caller claimed to have killed two people. While investigating the report, the teenager ran toward an officer and began assaulting him, police said. During the struggle, the suspect stabbed the officer once in the upper body before being taken into custody.
The injured officer, a six-year veteran assigned to the Fair Oaks District, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. Detectives later determined that the teen was the caller and that his initial statements were false.
The 16-year-old has been charged with malicious wounding and remains in custody. Authorities have not released his identity due to his age.
The investigation remains ongoing as police review the circumstances surrounding the false report and the attack.
