BALTIMORE, Md. — A Parkville man has claimed the first $50,000 top prize in the Maryland Lottery’s new MONOPOLY X20 scratch-off game, officials announced Tuesday.

Roshan Khatri, a longtime lottery enthusiast from Baltimore County, purchased the lucky $5 ticket at JP’s Bar, located at 528 South Bouldin Street in Baltimore. Drawn to the instant ticket during a quick stop for an energy drink and scratch-offs, Khatri decided to try his luck—and it paid off.

“I was stunned,” Khatri said after realizing he had won. He left the store quickly, keeping his win a secret until the day he claimed the prize, accompanied by a friend for security.

The MONOPOLY X20 game, launched on January 13, is part of a family of MONOPOLY-themed scratch-offs licensed by Scientific Games, LLC. As the retailer that sold the winning ticket, JP’s Bar will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

While Khatri is still deciding how to spend his winnings, he is thrilled with his unexpected windfall.
