RUNNEMEDE, N.J. — A Runnemede man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend, whose body was found in a refrigerator in a New Jersey state forest, authorities said.
Christopher Blevins, 45, is accused of killing 50-year-old Laura Hughes, Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, New Jersey State Police Colonel Patrick J. Callahan, and Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland announced.
Hughes’ body was discovered on December 22, 2024, in Belleplain State Forest in Cape May County. Investigators later identified her and linked Blevins to the crime, officials said.
Blevins was initially charged on January 3, 2025, with second-degree desecration of human remains and third-degree hindering apprehension. He was arrested in San Diego, California, on January 13 and remains in custody there.
On January 29, authorities in Camden County upgraded the charges against Blevins to first-degree murder. He is awaiting extradition to New Jersey to face prosecution.
