19-Year-Old Fatally Shot on Congress Street in Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 19-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday morning in Southeast D.C., prompting an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.

At approximately 8:33 a.m., officers from the Seventh District responded to reports of an unconscious person in the 1300 block of Congress Street, Southeast. Upon arrival, they discovered Khamani Hicks, of Rockville, MD, suffering from gunshot wounds.

DC Fire and EMS personnel arrived at the scene, but despite lifesaving efforts, Hicks was pronounced dead.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the police at (202) 727-9099 or text tips to 50411. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in connection with the case.

The investigation into the fatal shooting remains ongoing.
