BROOKLYN PARK, MD — A Brooklyn contractor’s lottery routine paid off when he won a $50,000 top prize playing the $50,000 Cash scratch-off after stopping at a 7-Eleven for a soda and a few tickets.
The lucky player, who prefers to buy scratch-offs in consecutive order believing it increases his odds, purchased the last three tickets from a roll. While the first two tickets were not winners, the third revealed the life-changing prize.
After encountering an error message on the first scanner, he tried another machine, which prompted him to visit the lottery office. Still uncertain, he scratched the ticket completely in his car, revealing the $50,000 win.
The winner rushed home to share the news with his wife, who initially dismissed the ticket as a non-winner before realizing the big win upon a second look.
The man plans to use his prize money to pay off credit card debt and fund home improvements.
