Two Maryland airport employees arrested for leaking video of deadly D.C. collision to CNN

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two employees of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) have been arrested and charged with “computer trespass” for allegedly making an unauthorized copy of security footage showing last week’s deadly collision at Reagan International Airport.

The MWAA confirmed in a statement that the employees improperly accessed the footage and provided it to CNN. Authorities identified the suspects as a man from Rockville, Maryland, who was booked into the Arlington County Adult Detention Center and later released on his own recognizance, and a man from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, who was released on a summons by a magistrate.

The charges come as federal investigators continue probing the incident, which left 67 people dead. Officials have not disclosed how the video was obtained or if additional individuals were involved in the leak.

The MWAA has not commented on whether further disciplinary action will be taken against the employees beyond the criminal charges. CNN has not issued a statement regarding the arrests or the video’s origins.

The arrests have sparked debate over transparency and accountability in the investigation of the crash that claimed dozens of lives.
