Massachusetts man arrested for threats against Trump cabinet members identifies as woman

WASHINGTON — A Massachusetts man who told police he went to the U.S. Capitol intending to kill members of former President Donald Trump’s cabinet cited influence from Luigi Mangione, the man charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, prosecutors said in a court filing.

Ryan Michael English, who goes by Riley Jane English, was arrested and remains in custody following his initial court appearance on.

English did not contest her pretrial detention, according to court records.

Prosecutors stated that English, 24, of South Deerfield, Massachusetts, told authorities he felt like he was “on a mission” and had been thinking about carrying out the act “for a while because of Luigi Mangione.” Mangione pleaded not guilty in December to state murder and terror charges in Manhattan related to the December 4 shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

“I pushed that away because I was thinking like that is so stupid, that accomplishes nothing, that poor kid just threw his life away for like a minute of vengeance,” English said, according to prosecutors.

English was arrested on weapons charges after approaching police at the Capitol and stating she was there to kill billionaire investor Scott Bessent on the day the Senate confirmed him as Treasury Secretary, according to a court filing.
