NEW CASTLE, Del. — A Wilmington man was arrested on felony gun charges Tuesday night after police discovered a stolen, loaded handgun in his vehicle during a traffic stop, authorities said.
Stephan White, 21, was pulled over by members of the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force at approximately 10:20 p.m. on New Castle Avenue after officers noticed his Volkswagen Jetta had a fictitious temporary tag, police said. White, who was unable to provide identification, was taken into custody after authorities determined his driver’s license was suspended and the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured.
During an inventory search before towing the vehicle, detectives found a concealed, loaded handgun under the driver’s seat. A records check revealed the firearm had been reported stolen in Newark in March 2023.
White, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. He was transported to Troop 2, charged with multiple felonies, and arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11.
He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $23,500 cash bond.
