Off-duty NYPD school safety agent arrested for theft in Manhattan

NEW YORK An off-duty New York City school safety agent was arrested Friday afternoon in Manhattan and charged with theft-related offenses, authorities said.

Emmanuel Bermudez, 37, was taken into custody at approximately 2:16 p.m. within the confines of the 13th Precinct, which covers parts of Midtown and Gramercy. Police charged him with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.

Details regarding the alleged theft were not immediately available, and authorities have not disclosed whether the incident occurred while Bermudez was on duty.

The NYPD has not commented on Bermudez’s current employment status following his arrest.
