8-Year-Old Boy Shot and Killed in Newark, Man Injured

NEWARK, N.J. — An 8-year-old boy was shot and killed Friday evening in Newark, just blocks away from where a 36-year-old man was found wounded by gunfire around the same time, authorities said.

The child was shot near 130 Osborne Terrace, while the injured man was discovered at 38 Yates Street, according to Carmen Martin, a spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Both incidents occurred shortly before 6 p.m., but officials have not confirmed whether the shootings were connected.

The Newark Police Division and Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating and have not released details about a suspect or a possible motive.

The Essex County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Authorities urge anyone with information to call 1-877-TIPS-4-EC.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine the circumstances surrounding both shootings.
