BRONX, N.Y. — A Bronx man was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison for opening fire on a group of men in broad daylight, wounding two victims on a Longwood street.
Jhoan Mota, 43, pleaded guilty in December to two counts of second-degree attempted murder for the April 21, 2022, shooting outside 957 Kelly Street. Prosecutors said Mota approached a group of men near a parked car at approximately 10 a.m., spoke briefly with the driver, and then shot him three times at point-blank range.
As the group attempted to flee, Mota fired twice more, striking a second man in the neck and lower back. When the victim collapsed, Mota stood over him and shot him again in the right hand.
Bronx Supreme Court Justice Joseph McCormack sentenced Mota to 15 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. District Attorney Darcel D. Clark called the shooting “brazen” and said it showed “complete disregard” for public safety.
