Morning commute slows across New Jersey due to crashes, delays, and water main breaks

NEWARK, N.J. — Morning commuters across New Jersey are facing heavy delays due to a series of crashes, lane closures, and ongoing congestion, with major roadways experiencing significant backups.

Traffic on the New Jersey Turnpike – Hudson County Extension is affected by a disabled vehicle eastbound near Interchange 14, blocking the right lane, while a separate crash at the same interchange has the center lane closed. Further south, another crash on the Turnpike at Interchange 9 in East Brunswick is also blocking a center lane, adding to delays in that area. In Elizabeth, an entrance ramp crash near Interchange 13 is causing further slowdowns.

On I-80 eastbound in Parsippany-Troy Hills, a jack-knifed tractor-trailer east of Exit 42 is shutting down two right lanes, leading to delays of 15 to 20 minutes. I-295 is also seeing trouble, with a crash southbound near Exit 30 in Lawnside closing the left shoulder, while northbound traffic is backed up due to volume between Exits 26N and 28 in Bellmawr.

A crash on NJ 495 eastbound at NJ 3 in North Bergen has the right lane blocked, while another collision on US 9 southbound in Woodbridge is leading to full lane closures at the ramp to NJ 184. Additional water main breaks are further complicating traffic, including on NJ 26 in North Brunswick, US 46 in Rockaway, and US 9 in Woodbridge.

Commuters heading toward New York are also seeing extensive delays. The George Washington Bridge is experiencing 40-minute travel times in both directions on I-95 from I-80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge. The Lincoln Tunnel is backed up 20 minutes from New Jersey Turnpike Exit 16E to the New York side in both the center and south tunnels. NJ 29 northbound and US 1 northbound are also experiencing delays due to heavy volume.
