YORKTOWN, VA — A routine stop on the way home from a hair appointment turned into a $100,000 lottery win for Karen Perez, one of the lucky winners in Virginia’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle.

Perez purchased four tickets at York Food Mart, located at 8102 George Washington Memorial Highway, and one of them—ticket #521879—was among the seven $100,000 winners announced on January 1.

In addition to her prize, five tickets won $1 million each, while 1,000 others secured $500 prizes. The other $100,000-winning tickets were sold in Amelia, Charlottesville, Marshall, Midlothian, Woodstock, and Tazewell.

Perez, a retired U.S. Army veteran, said she has no immediate plans for her winnings. Her home county of York received more than $5.5 million in Virginia Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year, contributing to the $934 million raised statewide in Fiscal Year 2024.

The Virginia Lottery reminds players to check their tickets and play responsibly while supporting education across the Commonwealth.
