MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for portions of northern and northwestern New Jersey, including Morris, northeastern Hunterdon, east-central Warren, and northwestern Somerset counties.
The warning remains in effect until 10:00 p.m. EDT. At 9:03 p.m., meteorologists detected a severe thunderstorm over Long Valley, approximately 14 miles west of Morristown, moving east at 35 mph.
The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail. Radar data indicates the potential for minor vehicle damage, as well as wind-related damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines.
Affected areas include Morristown, Dover, Madison, Hopatcong, and multiple other municipalities. Portions of Interstate 80 and Interstate 287 are also within the storm’s projected path.
Residents in the warning area are advised to remain indoors and take necessary precautions as the storm moves through.
