HERNDON, VA — Tarikua Dagnachew’s persistence paid off when she purchased a Virginia New Year’s Millionaire Raffle ticket on Christmas Day—despite many stores being closed—and later discovered she had won a $1 million top prize.
Dagnachew’s winning ticket, #068764, was one of five selected for the $1 million prize. She bought it at McNair Farms Sunoco, located at 13470 Coppermine Road in Herndon. The other winning tickets were purchased in Ashburn, Fishersville, Henrico, and Moneta.
In addition to the million-dollar winners, seven tickets earned $100,000 each, and another 1,000 tickets won $500 prizes. Retailers that sell a $1 million-winning ticket receive a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery.
Fairfax County, where Dagnachew resides, received more than $53.4 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year. The Virginia Lottery raised over $934 million for public schools in Fiscal Year 2024, accounting for approximately 10 percent of the state’s K-12 budget.
The Virginia Lottery encourages players to check their tickets and reminds them to play responsibly while supporting education across the Commonwealth.
