Essex County man arrested on firearms charges after Cranford traffic stop
Quick Arrest Made in Northwest D.C. Robbery Attempt WASHINGTON, DC - Following a Northwest robbery attempt, D.C. Metro Police Department’s Third District detectives have swiftly apprehended a suspect. The incident occurred today around 2:53 PM, in the 1200 block of W Street, Northwest. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Lenare Leath, Jr. of Northwest D.C., allegedly brandished a knife and pushed the victim to the ground in an attempt to steal their property. After a struggle, the suspect fled empty-handed but was quickly caught by responding officers. The victim sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. CRANFORD, N.J. — A 24-year-old Essex County man was arrested Tuesday night after police found a loaded firearm during a motor vehicle stop on Centennial Avenue, authorities said.

At approximately 10:33 p.m., Cranford Officer Rameil King stopped a red 2017 Hyundai for moving violations near Centennial Avenue and Raritan Road. Officer Nicolette Tufano responded as backup during the investigation.

Police said Officer King located a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun containing 10 rounds of ammunition in possession of the passenger, identified as Foday Kailer of Irvington, N.J. Kailer was taken into custody without incident.

Kailer was charged with second-degree possession of a firearm and fourth-degree possession of large-capacity magazines. Authorities have not stated whether additional charges are pending.

Kailer was booked into the Union County Jail and is being held pending a detention hearing, police said.
