Man charged with DUI after hit-and-run, blames crash on attempt to kiss passenger

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A man accused of driving under the influence following a hit-and-run late Saturday claimed the crash was caused by his attempt to kiss his passenger, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the intersection of Richmond Highway and Burns Corner around 11:15 p.m. after the victim reported being rear-ended by a white Ford Ranger. The driver of the truck reportedly begged the victim not to call police before fleeing the scene.

Authorities located the suspect shortly after and noted signs of intoxication. The driver admitted to consuming two margaritas, and deputies found open containers inside the vehicle. Despite this, the man blamed the crash on being distracted while trying to kiss his passenger.

The suspect was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2, drinking while driving, and hit-and-run.

He was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held until sober.
