14-year-old shot multiple times during D.C. robbery dead, three young teens arrested

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 14-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with felony murder in the fatal shooting of another teenager during a robbery in Southwest D.C.

The shooting occurred Sunday afternoon in the 4000 block of South Capitol Street, Southwest. Officers arrived at the scene around 2:28 p.m. to find 14-year-old Myron Smith of Southwest suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.

Investigators determined the shooting happened during a robbery. A stolen white Kia Optima used in the incident was located by officers, leading to the arrests of three teenage suspects, including the 14-year-old charged with felony murder and carrying a pistol without a license. Two other teens, both 16 and from Northeast D.C., were also arrested and charged with carrying a pistol without a license.

A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for violent crimes in the District.
