Second suspect arrested in 2023 McPherson Square homicide

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A second suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the 2023 shooting death of a man in McPherson Square, authorities confirmed Thursday.

On Sunday, October 1, 2023, officers responded to reports of gunfire near McPherson Square. They discovered 56-year-old Leo Colter suffering from fatal gunshot wounds across from the 900 block of 15th Street, Northwest. Colter was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Wednesday, officers arrested 22-year-old Andrew Ellis of Tampa, Florida, charging him with First Degree Murder while Armed under a D.C. Superior Court indictment.

Previously, on February 16, 2024, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a 41-year-old man from Northeast D.C. in connection with the case. He was also charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.

This arrest marks significant progress in resolving the McPherson Square homicide investigation.
