OCEAN CITY, Md. — The Ocean City Police Department is warning residents of the potential for dangerous black ice on roadways as temperatures stay below freezing through the night.
Officials noted that ice could rapidly develop after sunset, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas, posing a significant hazard for drivers.
“Slow down, increase your following distance, and always drive with extra care when conditions are icy,” the department advised in a social media post Tuesday evening.
Motorists are urged to be especially vigilant during evening and early morning hours when black ice is most likely to form, creating slippery and often invisible hazards.
Residents are encouraged to stay off the roads if possible, as icy conditions are expected to worsen overnight.
