BRONX, N.Y. — A Bronx man has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder and related offenses for fatally stabbing another man outside a Red Cross shelter on Christmas Eve in what prosecutors described as an act of street justice.

Kayjon Yizar, 28, of East Tremont Avenue, was arraigned on January 14, 2025, in Bronx Supreme Court before Justice Cynthia Isales. He was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Yizar, who is accused of killing 36-year-old Arkmayer Davis, has been remanded and is due back in court on April 15, 2025.

According to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, the attack occurred on December 24, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., in front of a Red Cross shelter located at 101 East Tremont Avenue, where Yizar allegedly approached Davis and stabbed him multiple times in the head and body. The shelter had been designated as temporary housing for residents displaced by a fire at 1331 Findlay Avenue on December 2, 2024, which had caused significant damage to Yizar’s apartment.

Surveillance footage captured the stabbing, and Davis managed to run into the shelter before collapsing. He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he later died. Yizar was arrested on December 25, 2024.

Prosecutors allege that Yizar blamed Davis for starting the fire that destroyed his apartment, though Davis had not been charged with any crimes related to the incident.

“The defendant, in a fit of rage, carried out this senseless act of brutality in broad daylight,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said. “Such vengeance cannot and will not be tolerated in the Bronx.”

The case is being prosecuted by Homicide Assistant Johnathan Vega under the supervision of the Homicide Bureau, led by Chief Christine Scaccia and Deputy Chief Burim Namani.
