Metrobus slams into vacant Riverdale building as driver suffers fatal emergency

RIVERDALE, MD — A Metrobus driver tragically died Friday morning after suffering a medical emergency that caused the bus to crash into a vacant building in Riverdale, officials said.

The crash happened around 6:20 a.m. near Queensbury Road and Rhode Island Avenue and involved a bus operating on WMATA’s F4 Route. The bus veered off the road and struck a building in the 6200 block of Rhode Island Avenue, according to the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department.

Six passengers were on board at the time of the crash, but none were injured. Medics transported the bus driver to the hospital, where he later died from the medical emergency.

Images from the scene shared by fire officials showed the front of the bus lodged into the vacant structure. Authorities confirmed the building was unoccupied, and no additional injuries were reported.

WMATA has launched an investigation into the incident, while officials continue to process the scene of the crash.
