WASHINGTON, D.C. — Starting at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, some downtown Washington, D.C., roads will close earlier than previously scheduled to facilitate the buildout of the security perimeter for the 60th Presidential Inauguration, according to the U.S. Secret Service.
Officials emphasized the importance of safety during the historic event, noting the closures are part of a comprehensive security plan. East-west traffic on Constitution and Independence Avenues and north-south travel on major streets like 7th, 9th, 14th, and 17th will remain open.
Additional impacts include blocked garages and alleyways within the restricted perimeter and pedestrian areas starting at 7:00 p.m. Saturday. Blocked areas include Pennsylvania Avenue NW to F Street NW between 9th and 15th Streets NW and other stretches in central downtown. Restrictions will expand at 12:01 a.m. Sunday to areas outside the fenced perimeter, with vehicle travel significantly limited.
Concrete barricades will be installed in these areas to secure the event space, officials said. The full traffic and parking restriction map can be accessed at inauguration.dc.gov for detailed guidance.
