ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Authorities have opened emergency warming centers for residents displaced by an ongoing gas leak investigation, the Anne Arundel County Police Department announced Thursday.

South River High School has been made available as a warming center, offering shelter and restroom access for those unable to return to their homes. The Southern District Police Station Community Room is also open to provide additional support.

Police have not provided a timeline for when residents may safely return home as the investigation into the gas leak continues.

Officials are urging residents to monitor updates through the department’s Facebook page and “X” (formerly Twitter) for the latest information.

Emergency services remain on-site as safety assessments and repairs are underway.

The gas leak has forced temporary evacuations, leaving several residents seeking shelter amid frigid temperatures.
