Stolen vehicle chase ends with crash and arrest in South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, P.A. — A man was taken into custody Tuesday morning after leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle that ended in a crash in South Philadelphia, authorities said.

Around 11:00 a.m., officers from the 3rd District spotted a red 2002 Chevy S10 running a red light while traveling westbound on Snyder Avenue toward 10th Street.

Police determined the vehicle had been reported stolen in connection with a carjacking on the 3900 block of Kensington Avenue.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, turning onto Porter Street and then north onto 9th Street, where the truck became stuck in traffic and struck a home railing on the 2100 block of South 9th Street.

The male driver was tased and arrested at the scene. A responding officer sustained a hand injury during the arrest and was transported to Methodist Hospital in stable condition. The suspect was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities are continuing the investigation, and additional details on charges will be released upon completion of the arrest process.
