NEW YORK, NY — The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect linked to a series of arson incidents across Lower Manhattan early Friday morning.
According to police, the first incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. on January 10, 2025, when an unidentified man intentionally set fire to a marked NYPD emergency vehicle parked in front of 254 Broadway.
Shortly after, at approximately 2:35 a.m., the same individual allegedly ignited another fire that damaged an unoccupied vehicle near 14 Murray Street.
The suspect continued the spree at about 2:55 a.m., setting a paper cup ablaze and tossing it into a trash can near the Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall subway station.
The final reported incident occurred at 3:40 a.m. on a northbound J train at the Woodhaven Boulevard station, where the suspect set fire to a pile of garbage next to a sleeping passenger before fleeing on foot.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the fires.
The NYPD’s Arson and Explosion Squad is actively investigating and urges anyone with information to come forward.
